Marathons

Bhutan, celebrated for its challenging mountainous topography and commitment to carbon negativity, hosts athletic events that test the mettle of both local and international participants, pushing even the most seasoned athletes beyond their limits.

Foremost among these events is the Snowman Race, occurring once every few years. Advocating for climate action, this arduous ultra-marathon spans over 222 km in the mountainous terrain, attracting only the most elite runners who have successfully completed this formidable challenge.

The Bhutan International Marathon, an annual event, offers international participants a distinctive racing experience while also promoting the sport of running among the country’s youth.

As part of the renowned Royal Highlander Festival, the Laya Run covers a high-altitude course of 53 km, guiding runners along the scenic Mochhu river and through the mountains of Gasa Dzongkhag.
