A scenic one-hour drive from Thimphu takes you to Dochula Pass (3,080m), where you’ll be treated to enchanting vistas of Bhutan. Make a stop to visit Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the temple of the Divine Madman Lama Drukpa Kuenley, where childless couples come to seek blessings. In the afternoon, visit Punakha Dzong and the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. Enjoy an overnight stay at your Punakha hotel.
Drive to Wangdue Phodrang in the morning. Explore the magnificent Wangdue Dzong. In the evening, take a leisurely stroll around Bajo Town, visit local shops and markets filled with authentic products. Later, drive to Gangtey.
After breakfast, drive through lush forests of oaks and rhododendron trees as you head to Gangtey (Phobjikha). Your journey will pass through thick forests until you reach Gangtey. Rest and relax in your camp or guest house. In the morning, explore the Phobjikha Valley, renowned for its black-necked cranes. After lunch, return to Punakha.
Morning drive back to Paro. Begin your day by visiting Ta Dzong, which houses the National Museum. Afterward, take a walk to Rinpung Dzong. Explore Drukgyel Dzong, set against the backdrop of a charming village at its base. This dzong was built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to commemorate his victory over the Tibetans. For the adventurous, you can hike up to Taktsang, commonly referred to as the Tiger’s Nest. Later, visit a traditional farmhouse to gain insight into the local way of life. In the evening, explore Kichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in the kingdom. Enjoy a restful night at your Paro hotel.
