Arriving in Bhutan is a breathtaking experience, with spectacular flights offering mesmerizing views of the Himalayas. Upon landing at Paro airport, you will undergo immigration and customs formalities before being warmly greeted by our representatives, who will escort you to your hotel. In the evening, take a leisurely stroll along the main street of Paro. Your first night in Bhutan will be spent in a Paro hotel.
After breakfast, you’ll embark on a memorable Bhutanese journey, starting with a visit to Ta Dzong (National Museum). You’ll then take a walk down the hillside trail to reach Rinpung Dzong, a historic site with a rich and fascinating past. The afternoon includes a visit to Drukgyel Dzong, a fortress where Bhutanese forces successfully repelled invasions by Tibetan armies. You’ll also have the chance to visit a traditional farmhouse to gain insight into the local way of life. The day concludes with a visit to Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred temples. You’ll spend the night in Paro.
After breakfast, you’ll continue your journey towards Thimphu, Bhutan’s modern capital. En route, you’ll stop at Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress in the Kingdom, which now houses the School for Buddhist Studies. In Thimphu, your afternoon itinerary includes visits to the Memorial Chorten and Tashichhodzong, two sites of great religious and cultural significance with stunning architectural beauty. You’ll also explore the Handicrafts Emporium, Textile and Folk Heritage Museum, and the local market to experience the richness of Bhutan’s culture. Your night will be spent in a Thimphu hotel.
In the morning, you’ll enjoy sightseeing in Thimphu, visiting the National Library, Painting School, and Traditional Medicine Institute. After lunch, you’ll drive to Punakha, Bhutan’s former capital. En route, you’ll stop at Dochula Pass, which offers enchanting views of Bhutan’s stunning landscapes and Himalayan peaks. On your arrival in Punakha, you’ll check into your hotel, and the evening will include visits to Punakha Dzong, a 17th-century fortress, and Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. Both of these landmarks symbolize victory. Your overnight stay will be in a Punakha hotel.
After breakfast, you’ll head to Gangtey via Wangduephodrang. During your journey, you’ll visit Wangdue Dzong, a majestic fortress, and explore the local market. As you proceed, you’ll pass through dense forests adorned with oak and rhododendron trees, eventually reaching Gangtey (Phobjikha). In the evening, you’ll have the opportunity to stroll through Gangtey village and visit Gangtey Gompa, the only Nyingmapa monastery in the region. You can choose to stay overnight in a camp or guesthouse.
Your morning exploration will take you to the picturesque Phobjikha Valley, famous for its Black Necked Cranes. These magnificent birds migrate to this region from the Central Asiatic plateau to escape harsh winters. After lunch, you’ll drive to Trongsa, crossing the Pele la pass at an elevation of 3,300 meters. Your evening will be spent exploring Trongsa market, and you’ll stay overnight at a Trongsa lodge.
In the morning, you’ll visit Trongsa Dzong, a masterpiece of Bhutanese architecture, and explore Ta Dzong, the watchtower, which now serves as a museum. Both of these structures play a crucial role in Bhutan’s history. After lunch, your journey will take you further east to Bumthang, the spiritual heartland of the nation. The evening is free for leisure, and you’ll spend the night in a Bumthang lodge.
Bumthang encompasses four valleys with altitudes ranging from 2,600m to 4,000m. In the morning, you’ll visit Tamshing Lhakhang, home to unique mural paintings, and Jakar Dzong, the valley’s administrative center. Afternoon activities include a visit to Kurje Lhakhang, a sacred site, and Jambay Lhakhang, an ancient monastery dating back to the introduction of Buddhism in Bhutan. You’ll also have time to explore local shops in the town. Your night will be spent at a Bumthang lodge.
After your morning visit to Bumthang market, you’ll drive to Wangdue. Lunch will be served at one of the renowned restaurants in Trongsa town. In the evening, take a stroll around Wangdue town, exploring shops, local markets, and engaging with the local community. You’ll stay overnight in a Wangduephodrang hotel.
As you journey towards Paro, you’ll visit Chimi Lhakhang in Punakha during the morning excursion. This unique temple, situated on a hillock in the valley, is dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kuenley and is often referred to as the “temple of fertility.” Legend has it that couples who struggle with infertility are often blessed with children after visiting this temple. The temple is accessible via a 30-minute walk through the fields. In the afternoon, you’ll drive to Paro, where you’ll spend the night.
Rise early for a day trip to Haa via the Chele-la pass. The road to Haa diverts from Bondey village, leading you through a blue pine and rhododendron forest for 45 km until you reach the Chele-la pass, located at an elevation of 4,200 meters. From this vantage point, you can take in the awe-inspiring views of Mount Jomolhari and Jichu Drakey. Following a short walk to admire the scenic landscape, you’ll continue your journey, covering an additional 22 km to reach Haa. After a picnic lunch, you’ll visit Lhakhang Karpo (White Temple) and Lhakhang Nagpo (Black Temple). The chief guardian deity of Haa is Ap Chundu, and the locality holds historical and religious significance. In the afternoon, you’ll drive back to Paro along the same route, taking less than 3 hours to return to your hotel.
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Paro airport for your flight to your next destination, concluding your enriching journey through Bhutan.
